 Technical Instructions for TBE E-Mail

Accessing TBE E-Mail Directly from Any Internet Browser
1.      Use any Internet browser to go to this site: http://fc.epi.sc.edu/login .
2.      Type in your TBE Username (tbe###) and Password (tbe###). Your unique numbers are in the Getting Started with TBE e-mail from your teaching partner.
3.      Click on Login.
4.      The window that opens is the Desktop. On the desktop you will see Mailbox, Discussion Room, Bulletin Board, and other options. Click Mailbox to open your mailbox. Explore and experiment to see what is possible within the TBE e-mail system.
5.      Click on Mailbox to open your mailbox for sending and receiving messages.
6.      To send an e-mail to a TBE colleague,
-On the left of the screen, click on the Create drop-down menu and select Message.
-In the To line, type in part or all of the personÕs name.
-Click Add. The system will fill in the name automatically (smart system!). NOTE: The system will not show the Send icon until you have clicked Add.
7.      Click in the message area and type your message.
8.      Click on Send to send the message.
NOTE: You can also create and send messages from inside the Discussion Room or one of the Rooms within the Discussion Room. If you want to send a message to your Room or the Discussion Room, send it just as you would send it to a person by typing part of the word (i.e., Disc), then click Add. When you do, the system will automatically address the message to everyone in the Room, and you may not want to do this. In addition, previous TBE participants asked that the Discussion Room not be filled with messages that they donÕt need to read.  The Discussion Room can fill up quickly!
Accessing TBE E-Mail Through a Downloadeded Program from FirstClass
1.      Use this link: http://fc.epi.sc.edu/tbe/clients . Your colleague Timothy has created this link and the subsequent installation steps just for you.
2.      Follow screen instructions to install the Client program on your computer. Choosing to RUN the program from the Internet will bypass the extra step of saving the installation program on your computer.
3.      Once installed, the Client will open automatically. To finish the installation, click the Advanced button at bottom left. The Setup button should then appear. Click Setup to open the Setup dialogue box.
4.      In the space for Server, enter the following: fc.epi.sc.edu . Do not change any other information in the dialogue box.
Now, when you click on the FirstClass icon on your computer, the Login window will open. Then,
1.      Type in your TBE Username (tbe###) and Password (tbe###). Your unique numbers are in the Getting Started with TBE e-mail from your teaching partner.
2.      Click on Login.

-Open a New Message (menu or tool button).
-In the To line, type in part of the personÕs name. The system will fill in the name automatically (smart system!).
-Strike Tab (to exit the To area) or Enter (to add another name).
5.      Type the message.
6.      Click on Send (menu or tool button) to send the message.
NOTE: You can also create and send messages from inside the Discussion Room or one of the Rooms within the Discussion Room. If you want to send a message to your Room or the Discussion Room, send it just as you would send it to a person by typing part of the word (i.e., Disc), then hit Tab or Return. When you do, the system will automatically address the message to everyone in the Room, and you may not want to do this. In addition, previous TBE participants asked that the Discussion Room not be filled with messages that they donÕt need to read.  The Discussion Room can fill up quickly!
